Abijah Benedict: Revolutionary War Soldier, Pioneer, Patriot tells the story of a man whose life was shaped by the American Revolution and the building of a new nation.

Born in Ridgefield, Connecticut, in 1755, Abijah Benedict served during the Revolutionary War from 1776 to 1778. He later married Amelia Bulkeley and, in 1805, joined the movement of families leaving long-established Connecticut communities to create new lives in central New York. He died in Pompey, New York, in 1818 and was later reinterred at Riverside Cemetery in Oswego.

Drawing upon genealogical and historical research, Michael Dykhorst reconstructs Benedict’s military service, family life, and journey from colonial Connecticut to the developing communities of New York.

Published in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, this biography honors not only Benedict’s wartime service but also the perseverance of the soldiers, pioneers, and families whose lives helped shape the United States.
